Dana Vespoli — Biography & Career
Dana Vespoli is an American adult film performer, director, and producer. Born in Portland, Oregon, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in comparative literature. Before entering film work, she rowed crew in college and adopted her professional surname from the Vespoli rowing brand. She entered the adult film industry in 2003 at age 31, first working as a performer and later expanding into directing and producing.
In April 2006, Vespoli began directing for Digital Sin. She later directed for Sweetheart Video and Evil Angel, building a body of work centered mainly on all-women scenes. Her projects for Evil Angel brought award nominations from AVN and XBIZ, reflecting her growing profile behind the camera as well as her earlier on-screen career.
Her recorded honors include the 2007 AFWG Award for Directrix of the Year, the 2013 AVN Game Changer recognition, the 2013 NightMoves Award for Best Director, Non-Parody, and a 2014 XBIZ directing award. In 2016, she was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame, and in 2022 she received the XCritic Award for Best Director, Non-Feature.
She also appeared on entertainment rankings published by Complex in 2011 and Break.com in 2014, where she was placed thirteenth and thirty-first, respectively. CNBC later included her on its lists in both 2015 and 2016. Over a career spanning the 2000s, 2010s, and early 2020s, Vespoli developed from an on-camera performer into a director and producer whose work has been associated with several established studios and multiple award organizations.
That shift from performance to filmmaking became the defining arc of her later career.
