Veronica Hart — Biography & Career

Veronica Hart, the professional name of Jane Hamilton, is an American director, performer, and media executive whose career has spanned film, television, theater, and education. Born in 1956 or 1957, she studied theater arts at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1976. After working in England, she returned to the United States and moved to New York City, where her screen career began in the 1970s. She became widely known on screen by the 1980s, with notable credits including Amanda by Night and Roommates. In 1981 she won the AFAA Award for Best Actress for Amanda by Night. She followed that with two AFAA honors in 1982: Best Actress for Roommates and Best Supporting Actress for Foxtrot. She later stepped away from performing and expanded into production and directing, while also working in mainstream-adjacent projects and live performance. Around 1984, Hart began directing segments for the Playboy TV series Electric Blue. She later became an executive at VCA Pictures, where she directed a series of comeback features for Ginger Lynn. After VCA was sold to Hustler Video in 2003, she left when her contract expired. Her directing work received further recognition with an XRCO Award for Best Video for Torn in 1999 and an XRCO Award for Best Comedy or Parody for Misty Beethoven: The Musical in 2004. She was also nominated for AVN directing awards between 2001 and 2005. Beyond that field, Hart appeared in off-Broadway productions including The House of Bernarda Alba and A Thurber Carnival, and took roles in non-explicit films such as Ruby, Boogie Nights, and One-Eyed Monster. Her television appearances include Six Feet Under, Lady Chatterly’s Stories, and First Years.
